Is Reductil for everyone ?

One question that many people ask regarding Reductil is if this prescription drug is designed to meet the weight loss needs of everyone.

The truth is, while sibutramine hydrochloride is an effective weight reduction schedule 4 medication that can be taken by both overweight and obese individuals of all nationalities, there are still some circumstances where the use of this drug is not advised.

Who Should NOT use Reductil

The use of sibutramine hydrochloride helps in regulating the BMI of the user by influencing the volume of release of both serotonin and noradrenalin chemicals by the brain.

These two chemicals tell the brain when a person should feel full or when they should be hungry. By regulating these chemicals, sibutramine which is the main ingredient of Reductil will control the appetite of the user and make the individual eat less.

By eating less fat and calories, the patient will not gain extra weight and would be in a position to lose weight as well.

However, while this medication is helpful for weight reduction, there are certain individuals who should NOT administer the drug without the approval of a qualified medical doctor.

These individuals include those with a history of an underlying health challenge.

Some of these medical issues include:

  • Having a history of a serious eating disorder, such as; bulimia nervosa or anorexia nervosa.
  • A history of tachycardia, congestive heart failure, arrhythmia and/or coronary artery disease.
  • A history of illicit drug, alcohol and/or prescription medication abuse.
  • A history of mental illness.
  • A history of organic obesity.
  • A history of tourette’s syndrome.
  • A history of high blood pressure where the person’s BP is more often than not greater than 145/90 mmHg.
  • If the person is suffering from hyperthyroidism.
  • Where the patient has a peripheral arterial occlusive disorder.
  • Having kidney and/or liver disorders.

People with phaeochromocytoma, renal disease, benign prostatic hyperplasia and even narrow angle glaucoma should NOT administer Reductil without getting the go-ahead from their doctor.

Reductil is a No, No for Pregnant Women

For pregnant and lactating women, taking Reductil is not advisable. This is because this drug is classified as a “Pregnancy Category C medication“.

For the sake of both the mother and infant, it is not recommended that pregnant women use any appetite suppressant or any other weight reduction drug.

Also, after child birth it is not recommended for breastfeeding mothers to use Reductil. This prescription medication should only be used by a mother after she has stopped breastfeeding her infant.

Other Health Considerations for using Sibutramine Hydrochloride

While sibutramine hydrochloride is an excellent medication for athletes and bodybuilders looking to start off a cutting cycle, there are certain precautions that must be observed.

If you have health challenges such as gallstones, epilepsy and seizures, haemorrhoids, and a bleeding disorder, it would be advisable to avoid taking Reductil without a proper examination and prescription from a competent medical personnel.
